From January 2021, Mentor Will Be Renamed Siemens EDA(1)

  • 2021-06-01
A few days ago, Siemens (Siemens) EDA IC-EDA executive vice president Joe Sawicki revealed in his blog that starting from January 2021, Mentor will officially be renamed Siemens EDA (Siemens EDA).

In March 2017, Siemens acquired Mentor Graphics for US$4.5 billion and merged it into the Siemens Digital Industry Software division. Since then, Mentor's external name has been "Mentor, a Siemens Business". The name change brings EDA software, simulation, mechanical design, manufacturing, cloud, Internet of Things and low-code technologies under the unified banner of industrial software. "Mentor has always been a pioneer in the digitalization of electronic design. Siemens has brought world-class digitalization into large systems such as airplanes, automobiles, factories, and cities. Connecting electronic design to large systems is the vision of our customers." He wrote in his blog.

The following is the full text of the blog originally titled "Redefining Electronic Design Automation from an IC Perspective":
In January 2021, Mentor will become Siemens EDA. This is exciting news for our EDA customers. Mentor has always been a pioneer in the digitalization of electronic design. Siemens has brought the world's leading digitalization to large-scale systems such as airplanes, automobiles, factories and cities. Connecting electronic design to large-scale systems is the vision of many of our customers. Siemens enables us to increase R&D investment, develop new products, and acquire first-class electronic design companies to better meet customer needs.
On a global scale, almost every industry is redefining itself through digitalization. And, as you know, IC is the core of digitization.
Companies are seeking to use semiconductor technology to change their business models, logistics and finances, and this has brought rare opportunities to the semiconductor industry. We can see new participants in the IC design market every day. Among them are start-ups and large system vendors that have built in-house design teams. Obviously, this trend will drive the huge growth of EDA business.
To understand this, we can look at the data traffic forecast. The results show that the data traffic will increase by 400 times in the next few years. Regardless of whether the terminal market is gaming, video, Internet of Things, automotive or medical products, the scale of these markets is expected Will exceed the sum of today's data traffic. This is a rare opportunity, because these data need to be processed and transmitted, and these systems rely on semiconductors.
