ProSafe-RS Safety Instrumented System, Obtained ISASecure CSA level 1 certification

  • 2021-07-05
Cyber attacks are on the rise globally and become increasingly complex. In recent years, many attacks have targeted industrial control equipment, resulting in production losses and information theft. In August 2017, according to reports, a safety instrumented system was attacked by malware, which prompted calls for enhanced cybersecurity measures to counter the threats of these systems, which play a key role in ensuring the safety of the plant.

Yokogawa's ProSafe-RS safety instrumented system has passed Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3) application certification. In terms of network security, ISASecure EDSA certification has been obtained in 2013. The ISASecure CSA certification obtained this time is its follow-up certification, which complies with the international standards of IEC62443-4-2 and IEC62443-4-1 related to the safety of control equipment. Obtaining this certification indicates that the product has been recognized by a third party to comply with the safety measures of these international standards. Yokogawa is actively preparing to obtain ISASecure CSA certification for the ProSafe-RS Lite SIL2 safety instrumented system, which was released in January this year.

By developing highly secure control equipment and systems and providing support services, Yokogawa provides customers with a wide range of security solutions. Yokogawa will use this certification as an opportunity to accelerate its efforts to strengthen the network security of customer factory operations.

*1 ISA Security Compliance Institute and ISASecure CSA

The ISASecure CSA certification was developed by the ISA Security Compliance Institute (ISCI) and focuses on the security of embedded devices and related components (software applications, host devices, and network devices). The members of ISCI mainly come from the International Association of Automation, whose main activity is to promote the safety certification of industrial control systems and control equipment. The ISASecure CSA certification program was launched in August 2019. As a follow-up certification to the ISASecure EDSA certification, it complies with the International Electrotechnical Commission's IEC 62443-4-2 and IEC 62443-4-1 international standards on the safety of control equipment.
