Introduction

The ABB water and wastewater drive,ACQ580, features Intelligent PumpControl (IPC), thereby enhancing thedrive by providing even more capablemulti-pump control. The controlcommissioning is greatly improved: itincludes a copy function, whereby thepump and timing settings from thefirst drive to be commissioned can becopied into the other drives on thesystem. This is carried out via the D2D(drive to drive) serial link - a simpletwisted pair connection. Maintenanceand maximum wear intervals, tokenpassing and automatic masterswapping are all configurable, allowingfor a multi-pump system.

The ABB HVAC drive, ACH580, is nowavailable as an ultra-low harmonic(ULH) variant. The drive has an activefront end that actively ensuressinusoidal waveforms are drawn fromthe supply, minimising harmonic loadonto the system. Typical totalharmonic current distortion (THDi) isbetween 2 to 4 percent, compared to atraditional drive at 35 percent(assuming it contains a good qualitychoke) or a passive filter at 8 to 15percent. The ULH ACS580-31 canoperate alongside the standardACH580 drive to achieve the bestharmonic solution. ABB can assist inmaking the correct selections andcombinations to satisfy the needs ofG5/4. This will ensure a building orinstallation is correctly connected tothe relevant electricity authorities’supplies.

The ABB general purpose drive,ACS480, is available up to 22 kW. Itcompliments the ACS580 by having thesame software internally and basic I/Ostructure. The ACS480 has a differentform factor for use in applicationswhere cabinet installation or limitedspace might be a consideration. Thedrive can be ordered with either the I/Oor a fieldbus option modules fitted,making the commercial package moreattractive.
