Introduction

SLC 500 series A chassis (1746-A4, 1746-A7, 1746-A10, and1746-A13) manufactured before November 1992 have a resistorbetween the logic ground and chassis ground as the drawing onthe following page illustrates. This resistor could be damaged ifthe wiring recommendation described within the attention boxabove is not . See the figure on the following page forthe location of the resistor. SLC 500 series A chassis (1746-A4,1746-A7, 1746-A10, and 1746-A13) with a manufacture date ofNovember 1992 or later do not have this resistor. SLC 500series B chassis have a 1 MW resistor that limits the currentbetween logic ground and chassis ground.A hard-wired master control relay (supplied by you) provides a convenientmeans for emergency controller shutdown. Since the master control relayallows the placement of several emergency-stop switches in different locations,its installation is important from a safety standpoint. Overtravel limit switchesor mushroom head push buttons are wired in series so that when any of themopens, the master control relay is de-energized. This removes power to inputand output device circuits.
