Description

The air control valve provides you with a means of controlling the air flowthrough the gun. It is far superior to having a variable speed switch on theturbine because you will often want to adjust the air without having to walkover to the turbine. Plus, it does not cause overheating of the motor whichhappens when the speed of the turbine motor is reduced. This is becauseturning down the speed,also reduces speed and efficiency of the coolingfan. There is one thing to remember about the air control valve - it is the‘last in the chain’ of operations after 1) Thinning the paint 2) Adjusting theshape and size of the spray pattern 3) Adjusting the flow of paint throughthe gun. After performing these operations, you should spray a fewpasses onto a scrap piece of plywood or cardboard. 

This will allow you todetermine if the paint (generic word for any type of coating) levels nicely. Ifthere is ‘orange-peel’ then you must thin the product more. It is no use toturn down the air to remedy orange-peel. Once the gun is producing aperfect finish with full air, you may then experiment with turning the air downuntil bounceback is reduced to a mininum. However, if orange-peel results,you have no option but to turn the air up again a slight amount. With heavierpaints (such as latex) spraying should be done with the valve fully open (oreven removed). When excessive ‘blowback’ or overspray is a problem, turnthe lever to reduce the amount of air. To prevent runs when reducing the air,you may have to reduce the amount of material (fluid adjusting screw Part2019). The spray-gun is a ‘bleeder’ type gun, this means that air flowsconstantly through the gun. The air control valve has been modified so thatthe air cannot be shut-off completely as this could cause overheating andshorten the life of the motor.
