The 3500/65 monitor provides 16 channels of temperaturemonitoring and accepts both resistance temperaturedetector (RTD) and isolated tip thermocouple (TC)temperature inputs. The monitor conditions these inputs andcompares them against user-programmable alarmsetpoints.The monitor is programmed using the 3500 RackConfiguration Software. You can configure the 16-ChannelTemperature Monitor to accept isolated tip thermocouples,3-wire RTD, 4-wire RTD, or a combination of TC and RTD inputs.In Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) configurations, you mustinstall temperature monitors in groups of 3 adjacentmonitors. In this configuration the monitor uses 2 types ofvoting to ensure accurate operation and to avoid singlepoint failures. The TDI resides in the slot adjacent to the power supplies of a3500 rack. It interfaces with M series monitors (3500/40M,3500/42M, etc.) to continuously collect steady state andtransient dynamic (waveform) data and pass this data throughan Ethernet link to the host software. Refer to theCompatibility section at the end of this document for moreinformation.Static data capture capability is standard with the TDI.However, using an optional Channel Enabling Disk will allowthe TDI to capture dynamic and high-resolution transient dataas well. The TDI incorporates the communication processorfunction within the 3500 rack.Although the TDI provides certain functions common to theentire rack, it is not part of the critical monitoring path and hasno effect on the proper, normal operation of the overallmonitor system for automatic machinery protection. Every3500 rack requires one TDI or RIM, which always occupies Slot1 (next to the power supplies)
