Description

The brain of the S4 (Series 4) controller is located on the bottomof the swing gate. This brain consists of several computerboards all connected together by a back plane. In this chapterthe overall operation of the computer system will be explainedalong with a description of each individual board in the system.Also described in this chapter will be troubleshooting procedures.Diagram 2.1 shows the computer system and the boards in thecomputer, by a basic description of each board in thesystem. 

The safety control order of operation is based on dual electricalsafety circuits (Run Chains) which interact with the robotcomputer and enable the MOTORS ON mode.The electrical safety circuits consist of several switchesconnected in series, in such a way that ALL of them must beclosed before the robot can be set to MOTORS ON mode.MOTORS ON mode means that power is supplied to themotors.The electrical safety chains are continuously monitored and therobot reverts to the MOTORS OFF mode when a fault isdetected by the computer. MOTORS OFF mode means thatdrive power is removed from the robot’s motors and the brakesare applied
