The robot computer, controls the system's I/O, axiscontrol, serial communication and teach pendantcommunication. It is the first unit to start after a cold orwarm start. The red LED on the front of the board goesOFF immediately when the system is reset and goesON again if an error is detected in the tests. The robotcomputer releases the main computer when thepreliminary diagnostics have given the go-ahead signal.The read and write memories of the robot computer arebattery-backed.If the system does not start at all and the LED on therobot computer goes ON, the error is probably in therobot computer, but may also be caused for otherreasons indicated by the diagnostic messages.It is not possible to carry out diagnostics on the boardin the operation environment and, therefore, if the robotcomputer is faulty, it must be replaced.If the Robot Computer board is replaced, take theEPROM chips from the old board and put them on thenew board. Insert the Robot Computer board in thecorrect slot. (See Figure 2-4) The system software willthen have to be loaded and the system parametersneed to be loaded. Then the resolver counters need tobe updated also. Refer to Chapter 3 - Loading SystemSoftware for procedures.
