There are a number of ways to create the control modules. In the DeltaV Explorer, you can copy a module template from the library bydragging and dropping it onto your plant area and then renaming it. In Control Studio, you can start from a module template, modify the module, andsave it in your plant area under a new module name. In Control Studio, you can start from scratch by dragging and dropping functionblocks and other items from palettes of predefined items, connecting the blocks,and modifying block parameters. In Configuration Assistant, you can copy a module template from the library.In the exercises in this chapter, you will learn how to use the first three methodsIn the following exercises, you will perform these steps to create the control strategy: Create and name a plant area to hold the control modules. Create the modules that specify the input, processing, output, alarms, andconditions for the process equipment, control loops, and other parts of theprocess. Create a Sequential Function Chart (SFC) to automate the process.Strictly speaking, you do not need to create an SFC. You can set up your processsystem in such a way that an operator would activate specific equipment, changesetpoints, and perform other operations. However, in many cases, it is useful to definea Sequential Function Chart to automate the process (or parts of the process, such asstartup or shutdown procedures) with minimal operator intervention.When creating the control modules that make up your control strategy, sometimesyou will create a module from scratch (using the basic function blocks), but moreoften you will start with one of the predefined module templates.
