System communication

The operator and the process level communicatevia the control network, which is based on Standard Ethernet. You can choose between varioustransmission media such as twisted pair or fiberoptic cable. The system components use a specific protocol called DMS, which is an enhancedMMS (Machine Message Specification) protocol.This protocol can be utilized by 3rd party networksubscribers using the application interface DMSAPI. This is a “C” programming interface for MSWindows to enable programmers to create tailored solutions. A more standardized and genericapproach to connect to the system is provided bythe Freelance OPC server to access real-time process values (DA) and alarms/ events (AE) from theFreelance System.

CPU Modules

Several CPU modules are available that vary in terms ofprocessing power, memory size, and redundancy support.Each CPU module is equipped with built in Ethernet port(s) forcommunication with other controllers and for interaction withoperators, engineers, managers, and higher level applications. These ports can be configured for redundancy for thosecases where availability is of paramount importance. It is alsoequipped with two RS-232C ports that can be used for pointto-point communication with programming/debugging toolsand with third-party systems and devices.
