With a systemthat has a very small program, it would be cost effective to use an S7-200PLC rather then a S7-300 PLC. However, there is no software converterto use for a migration to a S7-200. SIMATIC S7-300 is a modular minicontroller designed for mid range applications. SIMATIC S7-400 isdesigned for high end/ high performance applications. The critical factoris to choose the correct S7 CPU. There are two parameters to focus on.The first is CPU memory size. Choose an S7-300 or S7-400 CPU with amemory size equivalent to the memory size of your S5 Controller plus anyadditional memory to cover expansion or 20% excess capacity. Theexcess will vary depending on how much of the S5 CPU memory theprogram actually uses. The second important parameter is CPU I/Oaddressing capacity.
