Description

Fault tolerance in the Tricon is achievedby means of a Triple-Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture. The Triconprovides error-free, uninterruptedcontrol in the presence of either hardfailures of components, or transientfaults from internal or external sources.The Tricon is designed with a fully triplicated architecture throughout, fromthe input modules through the mainprocessors to the output modules.Every I/O module houses the circuitryfor three independent channels,which are also referred to as legs.Each channel on the input modulesreads the process data and passesthat information to its respectivemain processor. The three mainprocessors communicate with eachother using a proprietary high-speedbus system called the TriBus.Once per scan, the three mainprocessors synchronize and communicate with their two neighbors overthe TriBus. The Tricon votes digitalinput data, compares output data,and sends copies of analog inputdata to each main processor.
