Unlike earlier safety standards,10001/R/1 the international standards ANSI/ISA S84.01 andIEC 61508 do not only focus on the safety system 10001/R/1(called “logic solver”, e.g.10001/R/1 Safety Manager), but also demand compliance of the field equipment to theSafety Integrity Level (SIL) of the control loop.10001/R/1 This may not always be possible.The control loop,10001/R/1 for example, may be rated SIL3, whereas a transmitter thatmeasures one of the loop input variables is only suited for SIL1 and SIL2. Insuch cases, the required level of safety can be realized by using multiple sensorsor transmitters.

Safety Manager supports multiple input configurations for digital and analoginput signals.10001/R/1 The multiple-input function allows the use of two or three sensorsor transmitters to measure the same process quantity. The resulting processvalue is fed to the control program on the basis of one of 10001/R/1the available standardmatching algorithms, e.g. 2-out-of-3 (2oo3).10001/R/1 Safety Manager monitors ifdiscrepancies occur between the values obtained from the independent sensorsor transmitters, and reports any detected faults through its diagnostics.10001/R/1 Thediagnostic status is also available to the control program.
