Eachcontroller consists of two modules. One moduleprovides the processor, memory, Ovation networkingand additional networking connections. The othermodule provides the interface to both local and remoteOvation and Q Line I/O, plus internal powering.Each functional processor in the redundant pairexecutes the same application program, although onlyone accesses the I/O and operates in control mode ata time. The partner processor runs in backup,configure or off-line modes with differences betweenthem alarmed.Control ModeIn control mode, the primary processor has direct I/Oaccess to read, write and execute both data acquisitionand control functions. In addition, the primaryprocessor monitors the status and health of its backuppartner’s processor and network.Backup ModeIn backup mode, the backup processor performsdiagnostics and monitors the status and health of theprimary processor. The backup processor maintainsup-to-date data by polling the control processor’sdatabase memory and receiving all of the informationthat the control processor sends including processpoint values, algorithm tuning constants and variablepoint attributes.
